Jack W. Meredith, 82, went to be with his Lord and Savior May 16, 2007. He was born in Monongah, W.Va., and resided in Virginia Beach and Fayetteville, N.C., before retiring to Elizabeth City in 1990 after a long career in the propane gas industry. He served in the Navy during World War II and later graduated from Fairmont State College in Fairmont, W.Va. He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church, active in the Senior Adult Choir and teacher of the Men’s Bible Class for many years. He was an active member of the Pasquotank Ruritan Club and was recently recognized as a 50-year member of the Princess Anne Masonic Lodge. He was the son of the late Charles H. and Margaret Pauline Meredith of Monongah, W.Va. He was preceded in death by his son, Gary Meredith; sisters, Delores Holt of Crown Point, Ind., and Jeanne Riddle of Titusville, Fla. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Nelda Meredith; daughters, Teri Ottinger of Virginia Beach, Jennifer (Don) Evans of Newtown, Pa., and Cynthia (Michael) Bryant of Glen Allen, Va.; brothers, Joe (Jean) Meredith of Daytona Beach Shores, Fla., and Bill (Roleta) Meredith of Sarasota, Fla.; and sister, Patty (Don) Wills of Fairmont, W.Va. He will be greatly missed by his nine grandchildren, Rachel and Grant Ottinger of Virginia Beach, Meredith (Brian) Pugh of Philadelphia, Jessica Evans of Richmond, Va., Brian Evans of Newtown, Zachary (Anna) Bryant of Richmond, Megan, Joshua and Anna Bryant of Glen Allen. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Corinth Baptist Church, US 17-S, Elizabeth City, by the Rev. David Turner. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 p.m. in Colonial Grove Memorial Park, Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach. Friends will be received at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 E.
